Dr Mark Cowley – Managing Director and Founder
BSc, MSc, PhD, MCSM, FGS, CGeol, CSci

Responsible for the overall management and running of the Practice. A Chartered Geologist and Chartered Scientist, experienced in the evaluation, planning and management of large and complex geotechnical investigationsOver twenty-five years experience in the preparation of detailed technical reports for subsidence claims, foundation design, railway and highway infrastructure developments, contamination assessments, solution features and slope stability. Specialist knowledge on the detection of desiccation in soils and domestic subsidence related matters. Extensive experience of managing complex ground investigations projects for commercial developers, the Highways Agency, Railway Authorities and Local Government. Experienced in preparing expert technical reports in connection with litigation, presenting expert evidence and being cross-examined in court. 

Ian Evetts – Deputy Managing Director
MSc, HNC, FGS, CGeol

A Chartered Geologist with over twenty years experience in the project management and reporting of complex geotechnical site investigations and contaminated land investigations. Responsible for the day to day operating systems in the Practice. Considerable experience in preparing ground investigation reports from conceptual design to quantitative environmental risk assessments, remedial works and soil waste classification assessments for landfill waste disposal as well as providing detailed geotechnical engineering design for foundations, roads, basements, retaining walls and temporary works. Experience in various commercial, industrial and residential construction developments with a close working relationship with regulating bodies such as Local Authorities and the Environment Agency as well as wide ranging clientele. 

Amanda David – Director
BSc (Hons), MSc, FGS

A Senior Engineering Geologist with over twelve years experience in the project management of geotechnical site investigations and contaminated land investigations. Responsible for promoting and marketing of the Practice. Experienced in the planning and supervision of a wide variety of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations and in the preparation and review of detailed technical reports. Responsibilities include detailed desk study assessments, contamination risk assessments in accordance with the latest CLEA guidelines, tiered groundwater risk assessment in line with the Environment Agency’s Remedial Targets Methodology (RTM), waste soil classification, liaison with clients and regulatory authorities, budget preparation and peer reviews. Projects have included extensive investigations throughout England and Wales including geotechnical, contaminated land and remediation projects. Previous experience has included projects in Queensland, Australia. 

Mark Thornton – Director of GroundTech Laboratories
Director of GroundTech Laboratories

The Geotechnical Laboratory Manager responsible for the running of the in house laboratory facility in accord with strict Quality Assurance procedures to ISO:9001 and ISO:17025 and the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, to UKAS Standards. Over twenty years experience in a geotechnical testing laboratory, familiar with all aspects of BS:1377 British Standard: Methods of Test for Soils for Civil Engineering Purposes, and associated testing standards. Quality Manager for the company. Responsible for supervision and training of laboratory staff and maintenance of testing proficiency standards, including calibration of laboratory test equipment. Extensive experience of working to deadlines, liaison with in house geotechnical engineers and external consultants and evaluation of laboratory test schedules and test results.
